Is your super ready for award modernisation?

In 2008, the Federal Government through the Australian Industrial Relations Commission started a process called Award Modernisation.

Award Modernisation aims to reduce the hundreds of State and Federal Awards to approximately 150 “modern awards”. From 1 January 2010, like awards of the past, modern awards will cover all aspects of employment like pay, working conditions and an employer’s superannuation obligations.

Modern awards will specify the superannuation fund(s) employers can choose as a default fund for any employees who don’t nominate their own fund to receive their super contributions.
